Time for a fitness blog reunion!

Heeeello family!  Just a little note to say I've been to the Y four times this past week.  I'm back to running/walking/jogging every other day soo hooray for that!  I've stepped it up to an hour long thing.  No weights or any thing fancy yet but I've found some neat Pinterest posts for popular workout sites featuring superfit people.  Hmmm...wonder if I'll be one someday!  (I guess that's up to me!)

Anyway, holla!

Chelsea...I do plan on making those blk bean brownies too!  You sent the recipe through email right?

No Posts in June.. and we are almost in July!

Hi family,

So I think its safe to say, we've pretty much fallen off this blog waggon. But maybe we should ressurect it! Its Summer and its time to play in the sunshine and keep losin' it! What better way to exercise than in the summer mornings or at dusk when it cools off. Lately i've been running at 6 am before work. Its suprisingly easier than I thought. As long as I trick myself and get my shoes on and out the door before I really realize what im doing. The morning jogs are a breath of fresh air, literally. I love seeing the dog walkers, and ducks by our nearby pond. I also feel so much better all day after I have my morning run. Who would have EVER though that I would opt to get up at 6am... not this girl.

On a celebratory note, I bought my dream suit and it came in the mail a few days ago! I am so excited to wear it to Put In Bay for the 4th of July weekend. I've been working so hard, and the suit fits perfectly! yay!

How are all of you doing on your goals? I see Dad is almost up to 20 lbs on lose it. Go pick up a medicine ball that is 20 lbs.. and youll see just how much weight that really is. Its amazing to think that can come off just through eating right and exercising. where does it go!? Keep working hard and putting in the sweat (and maybe tears). love you all and see you this weekend for the fathers day/birthday celebration!

Loop-di-duper :)

Hi Fam! Just checking in.  We best be exercising our little fingers..this blog is looking flabby!

About a week ago I discovered the joys of running a loop...down 682 across the bridge & down the bike path.  (It's so nice not to double back on the bike path!)  I think I've down that two or three times this past week & never ever do I run in the mornings but today, the weather was cool & not rainy, so...reminiscent  of my college days, I threw on some clothes, tied my laces & hit the pavement.  I did discover that my evening music mix will NOT do for morning running sprees.  They're sorta relaxing & in the morning I need all the artificial pep I can get.  I need tunes like "Highway to the Danger Zone" or "Get this Party Started" or something...Jules, what did you say was your favorite running song?

And so that was my workout today.  :)  How was yours?

Back in the saddle again

Don't know if you caught my exercise this week. First I was in the saddle (riding lawnmower for 1 hour) on Thursday which I estimated at 100 calories although there is no readout on the John Deere. Then just 10 minutes ago I was in the saddle again (exercise bike this time) for 23 minutes burning 154 calories. This was duly recorded on loseit and now I have another 154 calories to spend if I so desire. So far on loseit I'm down 15 lbs. Now I'm rivalling you Chelly.

Keep on, Keepin' on

Hello Water Logged Bloggers!
Not much rain here to report. Just a bit overcast with some drizzles. Matt & I went to Wyoming last weekend for Easter where it was cool and sunny.

Friday I took advantage of my gym's group fitness classes for the first time. I hit up a 10 am yoga class that had about 50+ people. I had lifted for my upper body the day before, so wasn't so psyched when the zen-style yoga teacher announced we would be focusing on the upper body and doing about "80 chaturangas" (push-ups). Yikes! We ended up doing about 100, but at about #40, I took her up on the suggestion to add a "modification" (read: knees down). It was a good work out. Here's a cool song on the teacher's yoga mix, which I think Kayte would especially like:

Matt & I ran on Saturday in Wyoming around the country through "Mormon Canyon." We saw some deer and antelope. Very scenic out there in Glenrock!

Today I am back in Pueblo. I usually skip the Monday night exercise since I am a little zonked after my Monday morning 4:30 alarm. However, after hearing a story on NPR on my drive down about how sitting on our butts is bad for our health, I was inspired to hit the treadmill at La Quinta tonight. Here is the link:

Not that this is any surprise, but I give a lot of exercise advice to my patients dealing with chronic pain. So I decided to heed my own advice and ease my aching back by exercising. I think it worked :)

Keep up the spring exercise blog diet momentum.

Drought-be-gone

Well first and formost- HAPPY EARTH DAY! Go ahead.. get out and go eat a veggie burger! If you have a little extra time make one! Its cheap, easy, fun, delcious and something new to try. Here is a bomb recipe http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/sandra-lee/black-bean-burgers-recipe/index.html . I like to add cumin and other spices to mine. Or if you're crunched for time, you can buy them - try MorningStar Asian Pattys or Spicy Black Bean burgers. You can grill them for maximum taste, but still on 100 calories, so you can induldge and make yourself a whopping double stack. : )

Good thing Kayte is the one riding everyones tails now to get back on this site. Im sure you were sick of me doing it . Although I totally agree, get back on ye blog. The more it rains, i say, the more we write!

I must say now that I'm back from San Fran, I am soooo happy that I am pretty rigorous with my eating/working out in the week so I can enjoy what I want on my mini vacations. I ate anything I wanted for those 3 days and was guilt free! When you work hard, you have to reward yourself. I was worried I was beginning to live in a health food cage I trapped myself in, but I think I have really learned how to balance pretty well and when to treat myself. If you never treat yourself, cravings get outta control and um.. hello... one of the biggest perks in life is delicious food (yes, I had in-n-out burger TWICE :) ) But heres the crazy thing.. i weighed less when I got back then when I left. Just more proof that you need to confuse your body sometimes so it keeps working hard.

My weightloss has slowed down for sure, but thats probably because ive relaxed my diet a little. I have 7-8 lbs more to go, which should vanish by end of May since I've tightened it back up this week. I mean its almost bikini season for petes sake!

Hope you all are doing splendidly. I don't know about you, but I think these downpours have been nice. As much as I like sunny perfect weather, I think the rain is relaxing, especially when I hear it pitter patter on the roof at work. Keep working hard, it will pay off and you'll feel better :)

PS: the best meal replacement protein bars ive found are Cliff Builder Bars. 20g of protein, 270 cal. Perfect for breakfast or an on-the-go lunch. Oh yea and dont pay more than $1/bar ...hunt around for a deal.

Lots of rain, but we've got a BLOGGIN' DROUGHT!

Hi Sisters and Dad, How's the movin' and shakin' in your worlds lately?  Good I hope!  Exercise is good for us!

It's been flooding all over SE Ohio and the river is higher than I've seen it maybe ever.  We've had bursts of sunshine this week but also torrential rain (which has been rough on the "new" front lawn in Cinci!) and so it hasn't been the best week to play outside.  Howeva' spring is here & everything is greener and the bikepath is a great place to be.... Polly & I walked earlier tonight while my car's oil was being changed.

I keep listening to the Fit2Fat radio podcast while I walk/run the bike path and learn about the most common prob's people encounter with weight lost: 1) eating below their basal metabolic rate 2) losing lean muscle while their bodies are eating below their basal metabolic rate.   Yep, these two things cause good intentions to result in bad results.  So in some cases, for weight loss plateaus, the recommended advise is "Eat up pup!"   A neat resource for calculating your BMR is here: http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/bmr/

Hit the Community Center tonight for a half hour run & some pull-ups (with the help of the pull-up machine) and also some stomach/back strengthening weight machines.  I had been doing some crunches on my exercise ball in the am & pm this week & found that my posture was beginning to go south.  Duh!  I've got to work out my muscles in pairs.  So I'll be laying my tum on the ball and doing reverse crunches now too.

It's Cadberry egg season so hop to the gym & then eat one with a glass of milk or protein shake.  :)
